Installation issue on Ubuntu 18.04
« on: June 30, 2019, 09:13:53 pm »
Dear All,
I've installed the Lazarus IDE for Linux Ubuntu i386 and once I start the IDE all visual Components are not there.
A compile leads immediately to Panic internal error.
I did a "sudo apt-get install lazarus"
May be there are missing steps ?
Thanks

Uninstall everything.
Then reinstall with FPCUpDeluxe, and "Online Package Manager": it's the easiest way to install FPC + Lazarus (and the component packages that suit you).
use: Linux 64 bits (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).
Lazarus version: 2.0.4 (svn revision: 62502M) compiled with fpc 3.0.4 - fpDebug \ Dwarf3.

Searching the forum for "Installing Lazarus Ubuntu" should give you enough to drop dead-asleep if you have insomnia. And if not, try the wiki. :)

One of the more interesting discussions is here: Installing Lazarus 1.8.4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Don't be misled by the title: it treats of general installation tips, tricks and potential pitfalls and has quite a lot of interesting information (including my own recipe :))

In short? Don't install from your distro's repo; download the debs from freepascal.org and install those using one of the methods proposed in that thread (using GDebi seems to be the preferred one).

I don't recommend using fpcudeluxe except in certain circumstances or as an almost-last resort, but that is just a preference of mine: YMMV.

Have luck!

alphonse777, please have a look at this wiki page, it might help.
https://wiki.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus_on_Linux

Particularly, about half way down is a very simple test to see if (much of) FPC is working, will help to isolate your problem although it does sound like a Lazarus issue to me.

https://wiki.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus_on_Linux#Testing_FPC_installation

You have not mentioned the version of Ubuntu you are using, that will tell us about the version of FPC/Lazarus you will get from Ubuntu's repo. Its quite likely you will, at some stage, decide that you need more than the ubuntu distro version. So, as I suggested, please have a read of the wiki page. Its a distillation of whats been said over the years in the forum with (some) of the red herrings removed.

I went there, but no luck :
https://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/BGRA_Installation_on_Linux

Of course I did a lot of googling before going here.

I have no components showing up in the upper bar.

I was successfull on a raspberry Pi 3 because someone did a step by step installation explained in a web tutorial page.

I'm talking about lazarus 1.8.2, I can see that the folder /usr/lib/lazarus/1.8.2/component is there with 6990 items and 196 Mb of files.

[-Edit-]

I works  :D based on comments above, and I would like to thank the nice contributors of this thread.

I manually download the 3 .deb packages
Remove and clean previous version installed with a simple sudo apt-get install fpc and lazarus
Installed the 3 packages with GDebi

Important :
Deleted the whole

 /home/[Login name]/.lazarus/ folder and subfolders.

Thanks

alphonse777 - thats great!  (I guess you installed 2.0.2 ?)

lucamar - yeah, it would help if I read the title, wouldn't it ?  Traveling at present, only a few minutes on line allowed ....
