[solved] VirtualBox 6
« on: July 23, 2019, 03:35:53 am »
Just a warning. I run Windows 7 and Ubuntu 18.04.2 on VirtualBox. I updated to VirtualBox 6, and got completely messed up. I reverted to 5.2.32 and got Windows working again, but Ubuntu is still messed up. I have not yet got Lazarus reinstalled. Stay away.

Huh? VirtualBox 6 works for me. Although I use the development version of it. Host is Arch Linux and I run Windows and Arch Linux as guests.

How it did mess up your guests?

No Problem with VBox 6 under win10/64 (with all patches) at all. Guests are ubuntu, debian, win7, xp, win10. I have to make the upgrade because the usb connection host -client works better for some camera devices.

But it is a good idea to remove the old drivers first and reinstall the drivers with the new version. Dont forget to boot between the the uninstall and the new install. So it works for me.

Ok, thanks! Maybe it was too late at night and I messed something up. :( I'll try again this morning with a cup of coffee.

I host on Mac 10.11 with Win 7 and Ubuntu guests. Windows opened up with an unreadable screen (tiny font), Ubuntu tried to reinstall itself.

I seem to be back on track. The window sizing settings were throwing me off, the default setting was not working at all. Maybe something changed in the use of Windows DPI aware?

Anyway, the good thing is that I found some fixable display bugs in my dialog box controls (TPaintBoxes) that were not resizing correctly. I had not seen the bugs, as I had not been using Windows' DPI aware. They were glaringly obvious with the new settings.

Ubuntu is running again, but I lost some files, I assume my own fault. No big deal, just a Lazarus reinstall.

Thanks.
