Pressing any button (e.g. letter) types it twice in 1.8.0

Hello,
OS: Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit.
I am a recreational user of Lazarus and an advanced user of Linux.
I have just edited my Q&A of how to install Lazarus on Linux Mint 18 and installed it:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/299758/lazarus-ide-not-correctly-installable-from-repository-in-mint-18-x
Now, what is the problem:
When I type, IT TYPES EVERYTHING TWICE, literally. See image in attachment.
I want to start a new project, hence I need this resolved soon.
Thank you.
EDIT1:
I have found that if I launch lazarus with sudo, it types normal. Where could be the problem?

Hello vlastimil,
Welcome to the forum.
This issue happens on Ubuntu, its variants and/or
GNOME Desktop
users. It has been reported here:
https://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=30863
You can find the solutions here:
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Faq#Typing_in_edit_fields_generate_duplicate_letters
I personally choose to disable the Input Manager. To do it on Ubuntu Mate:
Ubuntu main menu > System > Control Center > Language Support > Keyboard input method system > select: none.
---edit---
After you change the setting, you need to
restart
your computer.

Alright, there has been some XIM selected in Input Method in System Settings.
But the problem persists after setting it to NONE.
Any further things I could try?

This issue happens on Ubuntu and its variants.
It also happens on Manjaro Cinnamon. On Manjaro XFCE it does not happen. I gave up Cinnamon because of this bug.
