New push on Carbon widgetset
« on: February 26, 2007, 01:37:50 am »
Tom G. has posted a huge patch that improves the Carbon widgetset immensely. If you haven't tried it lately, give it a try again from the latest snapshot or SVN.

If you're intertested in working on a part of the Carbon widgetset, please sign up for what you're working on so we don't step on each other's toes.

Thanks.

I'm very excited about this widget set!
Great work guys!  :D

Being not very familiar with all of this (as many of us are I guess), could anyone write up a small "how to get started"?

Like
    * where to download
    * how to install
    * how to create apps for native Mac (if possible)
    * how to compile them for other platforms
    * implications/limitations
    * etc

Also; where can "we" (the less skilled) help out ...?

That should address your first 3 items.

Cross-compiling (if that's what you're asking about in point 4) is on the wiki.

This addresses limitations and what still needs to be done:

If you don't feel ready to try to write code for the Carbon widgetset, simply testing it and reporting bugs along with a small sample app that can be used to easily reproduce the bug is a very useful thing to do. Note you don't have to report things that are known limitations or unfinished (see the roadmap link in the second link for those). However, if you find a bug in a widget that is mark "Working" please report it (with a simple app that illustrates the problem).

Thanks.

I got it to work and found cross-compiling a bit cumbersome -- realizing that this all is still under development (and my respect and appreciation for that!).

Thanks :)
