Perhaps they are in there, but I haven't found any Winsock support in Lazarus. HTTP, FTP, NNTP and chat would be nice additions.

Is anyone working on porting in the Delphi FPiette freeware winsock component library?

Yes , thereisn't the winsock unit. I don't know if in the FPC(Free Pascal Compiler)package there's !!
but the winsock delphi unit is only for WINDOWS, Lazarus is compatible also with Linux and others , i think it theresn't because the winsock unit isn't compatible with Linux .
If you see also in Kylix thereisn't the Winsock unit .
Hello !!

Hmm let inspect what we got with lazarus...
in the directory "lazaus \components\turbopower_ipro" you`ll find TurboPower Internet Professional. I think it should be enough ;-) but I`m not sure that/how it works (I`ve not tested) But if You don`t like turbo power, you can use unit Sockets
