Laz Report in unable to stream illegal Character

Using latest Lazarus (1.4.2)  I can't open old laz reports from about a year ago.
Get this error:

Unable to stream MainReportMod:TMainReportMod.
Illegal character

If I chose ignore the report opens empty except for one plain text memo field.

I know this happened about a year ago with version 1.2 as well, I can't remember what I did to fix it.

If I forget, I always use the latest stable 32bit version of Lazarus and FPC. At the time of this signature that is Laz 3.0RC2 and FPC 3.2.2
OS: Windows 10 64 bit

Ok, got it working. 
I had to install 1.0.14 and save the report as a file and then load it into the 1.4.2 project.
