SourceForge is now bad
« on: June 11, 2015, 05:05:35 am »
this has been on the news for sometime now - http://www.howtogeek.com/218764/warning-don%E2%80%99t-download-software-from-sourceforge-if-you-can-help-it/

sourceforge is bundling malwares on open source projects it seems, and if the project is inactive in sourceforge their is a high chance they will remove the project owner from managing the project like what happened with GIMP for windowsOS

i suggest that Lazarus move away from SourceForge, i only know GitHub and maybe FossHub - http://www.fosshub.com/ as an alternative, if you know any filehost that are better just suggest it here

thanks for reading  :)

yeah yeah yeah, good morning to you too. No sourceforge is not responsible for the division by 0 that will obliterate the universe.

It is written in their license agreement that you can not delete any project and that they do preserve the right to change owners in order to keep the projects going. If you do not read the license is your own fault.

Fill free to open a mirror in your favorite online repository and keep it up with the primary repository, post a link here for the ones that hate sourceforge as much as you.
Good judgement is the result of experience … Experience is the result of bad judgement.

Claps.  I was going to say that we already know about the problem but you've pretty much summed it up.  As for that info about the license, I didn't know about that.  It goes to show you that you should read everything in the license before signing up for it.  It does create a problem with trying to withdraw from SourceForge when going somewhere else.  The conflict with both sites and people going to the wrong one.  Anyways, you've summed it up nicely, Taazz.

Old news, there already was a thread about this: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,24512.0.html

I hope we are not going to repeat that whenever sf takes over another abandonned project.
