Try to use http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/synedit/synedit-cvs-2004-04-27.zip
They say :
  "Installing UIB on Lazarus.
Install the package named "uiblaz.lpk" in the source directory.
Finally rebuild Lazarus IDE because lazarus link packages statically (Tool > Build Lazarus)."

I will traduce for the English folks:

When i try to install the Package uiblaz.lpk it returns me the 1085 error (after copiling with success).
Someone can explain me the problem?

It installs fine on Linux, on WinXP you need some workarounds:
-[Configure "Build Lazarus"], uncheck [ ]Clean all, uncheck [ ]With Packages, set only to build IDE, nothing else.
-Clean the UIB12\source\lib directory(the .compiled file for full rebuild)
-The icons will not show after installation so i shrinked them to 23x23 Pixels and rebuild registeruib.lrs, they work as .bmp's OR .xpm's (I could send them if you don't know how to make a new .lrs)
-Open the .lpk file from source dir and compile, you should say [YES] to recompile, after that you will get an error, something like "Permission Denied" when linking the executable, that's not a big problem.
-Close Lazarus, open a console, go to the lazarus directory, type "make ide OPT=@idemake.cfg"
-It should compile fine now :)
-Open Lazarus and start using UIB
-DBGrid has some problems but they might already be solved in the latest CVS
The future must be... Fast and OpenSource so...

I got UIB to install but didn't see any components on the UIB pallette.  Can you explain?

Thanks

After read the extensives explanations you wrote, I conclude that I never would use firebird/interbase.
Guys: I´m an BUSINESS APPLICATION programmer. I wanna be a LAZARUS USER. I have no idea how to do thinks that you explain.

Nightrider:

Try to compile and run the fpc examples about Interbase/Firebird.

Then you can do the same in Lazarus.

I tell you: I'm a COMPLETELY NEWBIE in Lazarus and I don't know Delphi. But studying, asking, and slowly learning I can connect to Firebird with Lazarus.

See my example:

Have a nice day.

To see the icons shrink them, make a new .lrs file using lazres, delete the subdirectory Lazarus makes (the .compiled file should be enough).
Reinstall UIB.
Voila !
I'm no expert but "practice makes perfect" (i don't know where i got that one but sounds good :) ).
