As Information Technology developing rapidly, programming has to fit multi-type operation systems. Programmers are always hoping a Rapid Application Development tool together with an easy-to-use IDE, with which programmers can chose their most comfortable language to work, while the code could be compiled into different target code for different platforms. That is the why Lazarus was developed.
Lazarus uses Free Pascal as its compiler, and takes 'One Coding, Any Compilation’ as its final objective. Lazarus implemented a set of GUI, which Free Pascal hasn't.
Lazarus inherited the support of multi CPU&OS from Free Pascal. The most beautiful thing is, it is Delphi-like, it means you may do visual programming, by dragging, setting properties and on-event coding, you could easily finish the functions you need.
Free Pascal is a Pascal compiler, it supports Object Oriented programming, high compatible with Delphi, it support multi types of target binary output with same source code, such as i386/x64/arm CPU and Win32/Win64/WinCE/Linux/BSD/MAC OS. Free Pascal has reach run-time libraries, and it is open sourcing and supports commercial development. It was used for China Youth Olympic IT Competition.
Lazarus programming has its unique advantages:
1. Free, open source for commercial use, this means you don't need to spend Ks of RMB for Delphi, you don't need another Ks for VS either. If you think compiler or run-time libraries not working properly, you may read the source code and correct the bugs by yourself.
2. It is Pascal and Delphi compatible, Pascal is always so elegant and easy to understand, people use Pascal to explain algorithms. If you have Delphi code, you may only need tiny modifications to reuse them.
3. There are so many QQ groups and BBS of Lazarus, you are not alone, there always are pros for you to discuss with and ask for solutions.
