How to examine TFieldType
« on: March 22, 2012, 04:55:17 pm »
I am working with FireBird and trying to build a generalized update routine where the user gives me values in TEdits and I do some rearranging and calculating and update Fields in the database.

The issue is that I need to know in what form to present the resultant data to the database.

I believe that I need to examine the dataType of the field into which the data goes?
(This is really my first question, will this give me what I need?)

I cannot figure out how to GetFieldType.

fieldType:=(Form9.QReport.FieldByName('FIELD_NAME').FieldType);

:( unit9.pas(364,49) Error: identifier idents no member "FieldType"

Once I have fieldType I hope to compare it to known types to decide how to format the data and avoid errors.
