Super Mega Ultimately Tiny Linux distribution (but with X11)?
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:58:50 pm »
I'd like to test some window managers written in FPC. Since none of them are in production quality, I won't risk my Linux installation. Instead, I'll take a very small distro with x11(+dev), with no apps if possible. Does anybody have a reference?

Try choose something on Distrowatch.

This: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=tinycore seems have installed Xorg.

BTW, what window managers written in FPC ? Are there any links ?
Lazarus 2.3.0 (rev main-2_3-2863...) FPC 3.3.1 x86_64-linux-qt Chakra, Qt 4.8.7/5.13.2, Plasma 5.17.3
Lazarus 1.8.2 r57369 FPC 3.0.4 i386-win32-win32/win64 Wine 3.21

Try Eye-Candy Controls: https://sourceforge.net/projects/eccontrols/files/

I have been up all night playing around with TinyCore trying to find a good minimalist installation. FPC (2.4.2) is in the repository and installs fine. About 12mb total size, runs from ram. There is a super minimalist version called Microcore with the total bare minimum system. Only 3 files total. Gather all the libraries you will need in a folder and ISO it together for a custom distro.

i would like an fpGUI distro myself.

Got it, I'll try Microcore and hope it has X11 package to form my requirement. Thanks.

Yeah, the idea is to start off with a simple directory with all the files you need. You then can  mount the MicroCore the first time and custom build the persistance layer, and save/burn copies of the installation.
Basically you must specify what loads and how is all at the first configuration is all.

Are you talking about a window manager like fgGUI?

It is all FPC

No, fpGUI is not a window manager. It's a widget library.
