Cannot install packages
« on: September 14, 2005, 08:32:49 pm »
Every time I install a pages it says:

"Compile IDE (without linking)" completed
c:\lazarus\link.res: file not recognized: File format not recognized
C:\lazarus\lazarus.pp(98,1) Error: Error while linking
make.exe[1]: [lazarus.exe] Error 1

What should I do to make it work?

What package are you trying to install?
What is the file "link.res"? In my lazarus root directory there is no such file. You have to look for a solution in that direction. See if you can find where link.res is included and try to remove that.
What's in a sig? Would my posting look less if it didnot have a sig? (Free after William S.) :)

:( Why cannot I upload my own Avatar? :(

Can you post the link.res? Maybe you used some uncomon chars in your paths, that is throwing the linker off.

When I try to install a package it says:

"Compile IDE (without linking)" completed
D:\Teste\lazarus\pp\bin\i386-win32\ld.exe:D:\Teste\lazarus\link.res: file format not recognized; treating as linker script
D:\Teste\lazarus\pp\bin\i386-win32\ld.exe:D:\Teste\lazarus\link.res:16: syntax error
D:\Teste\lazarus\ide\lazarus.pp(113,1) Error: Error while linking
make.exe[2]: *** [lazarus.exe] Error 1

Why?
What should I do to make it work?

Hi,
I have the same (similar) bug with a "link.res" that came out from nowhere. As a coincidence my folder name when the problem started had two bad characters "(" and ")"in the name : "stupidfoldername(april2007)"

This may be related !!!!

Now, how do I fix this: I changed the folder name but my compiler is still bugged!

Hi,

I also had the character "#" in my folder name: removing it solved the problem !!!!  --> no "(" , ")", "-" or "#" are allowed !!!
