Remote control using Apple Remote Desktop
« on: June 28, 2011, 12:16:03 pm »
Hi all,

I'm looking into adding OSX (Snow Leopard/hopefully Lion) support for my end-user remote control help solution CheckRide https://bitbucket.org/reiniero/checkride.

CheckRide currently tunnels a "reverse VNC connection" (i.e. a connection started by the VNC server at the "victim's" computer) over SSL (using stunnel).

Seems I could use the Apple Remote Desktop client which is basically is a VNC server. After searching a lot, it seems I can start/stop/change settings etc. using the kickstart command, but it seems I cannot start a reverse VNC connection, only a normal one.

Is that correct? Any pitfalls I need to be aware of, or, even better, some open source code already floating around somewhere  :) ?

In that case I will have to reorganize my code to tunnel both reverse and normal VNC connections, which would mean that I need some kind of protocol/communication to signify which direction the connection has to go...

Thanks,
