How about a Menuitem "Close Project" ?
« on: August 04, 2005, 09:33:13 am »
I there a function to close the Project in the IDE ?
If I use "Close all Editor files" then only the editor's are closed but not the project.

So maybe in Main Menu <Project> it would be nice to have <Close Project> which will ask to save changed files and then really resets the IDE.

What do you think ?

The ide is project based, so without project there is no editor and from that point you have 2 options:
1) exit lazarus
2) open a new project
I can't see what that option would add for new functionality.

Personally I would like to have my projects closed when installing new packages. It makes things a little less confusing, at least for me. Therefor it would be necessary to have the project close option. :)
What's in a sig? Would my posting look less if it didnot have a sig? (Free after William S.) :)

:( Why cannot I upload my own Avatar? :(

Maybe we should add the button because it has a positive psycological effect and people like it?

I am in favor. Is it already on Mantis?

Indeed. I've been making lNEt component past few days and I miss it too. When compiling and installing the component over old project it's automagicly added to dependencies. This isn't wanted.

I too would be in favour of this option.
I agree with Sekel that it is largely psychological,
and I can at least understand Marc's position.
To me though, psychology is important, I am
attracted to pascal for psychological reasons.
I like things to be modular, to have well-defined,
a "begin", an "end", and ultimately a period
(if my metaphor isn't too vague).

There is also the question of consistency.
My project is, ultimately, data.
Lazarus is, ultimately, an application.
Most applications will run without data.
gEdit will run without a text file.
Gimp will run without an image.
VLC will run without a video,
etc...  It is the standard.

All that said, Lazarus rocks!
Lazarus is the greatest, and shall always be
the greatest, with or without this option
(but I vote for With).

Holy ancient thread resurrections!   :o

Sorry about that.
I had assumed this was current
because it's currently being discussed
on the bugs@freepascal.org mailing list.
I hadn't realised this was so old.
