LazReport and Fonts in Linux
« on: May 27, 2011, 03:51:05 pm »
"If you want to create reports multiplatform (Linux and Windows) is
important to have Linux installed on the standard sources at Microsoft.

To install them on Ubuntu and its derivatives, type the following command in a
terminal (if using Linux, it is recommended that you install the
sources to accompany the book's examples):

"sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer"

While in Linux, the toolbar Text Editor
Reports, do not select a font type font, type the name
without the bracketed text, because only then is the change of source.
For example, instead of selecting "Arial [monotype]" enter only "Arial".

Other acceptable sources: courier new, courier 10 pitch, impact, comic
sans ms, georgia, helvetica, symbol, times, Webdings, and Verdana between
other.

The above text is an excerpt from chapter 14 of book I'm writing
about Free Pascal / Lazarus.

However, when you download a snapshot of today 0.9.31 Lazarus and Free Pascal
2.4.4, I noticed that the combobox is the type of source with Style =
csOwnerDrawFixed impossible to type the name of the source manually.

The solution?

I made the combo user editable again in Lazarus r30936.

BTW, this font handling where we added square brackets in order to distinguish font foundry needs to be reviewed, while it was a solution when gtk1 was the official widgetset it seems for gtk2 it's not necessary.

Thank you!

Would really work much better if there were no brackets.
After all, who still uses gtk1? Moreover, with time going from pro Lazarus gkt3.

Good job for you!
