CVS will be probably a better solution.

Some people don't want to compile lazarus for themselves, but prefer a simple installer. They are serviced by the binary installer.

Some people don't want to install and learn cvs, for those people is the source snapshot (in zip format, because if you don't want to install a cvs client, you might as well hesitate to install an exotic unpacker). The source snapshot is also usefull for people behind a firewall that can't acess cvs via port 2401.

It's about me... =(

...for some people internet is 0.05$ - 1Mb, and they don't want to download 9Mb if they can download diff(about 2-60Kb a day), or 4Mb a month(7-zip) or 6 Mb a month(bzip2)!!!!
and for them diff is the best solution... or some exotic unpacker to install

cvs is still the best option to that. If you cannot use it, while you are behind a firewall, you'll have to wait till we change to svn (that will be after the 0.9.8 release). Access to svn is http based, so anyone able to brows will be able to access the sources.
