Upgrading FPC from 2.4.0 to 2.4.2 in Ubuntu Linux
« on: February 21, 2011, 11:19:15 pm »
Hello, i want know how to upgrade the Free Pascal Compiler 2.4.0 to the lastest (2.4.2) (For Crossplatform applications...) in Ubuntu Linux and if possible apply these changes to Lazarus?
Lazarus 1.0.4 Stable - FPC 2.6.0 - gtk2 | Linux Mint 14 Nadia | GNOME Shell 3.6.2 - Awesome | Intel x86 | HP Mini 1020-LA Netbook (old)
Lazarus 2.0.2 Stable - FPC 3.0.2 - Windows | Lenovo IdeaPad Y

I think changing the 3 FPC paths in Environment | Options is all that's needed to use a different compiler with Lazarus.

However, other questions:

- What Laz version are you using? I have an installation on Mac of 0.9.28.2 that uses FPC 2.4.2, even though 0.9.28.2 was released with 2.2.4.

- Do you want to have multiple Laz installations?

Thanks.

That should work okay. If 2.4.0 compiles the 0.9.28.2 source okay, then 2.4.2 should too.

I'm not at my Mac right now, so I don't know for sure that I didn't need to make any fixes to the 0.9.28.2 source to compile with 2.4.2, but I can check.

Thanks.

I'm thinking:
- Download the stable 2.4.2 version of freepascal from freepascal.org.
- Enter as root in Nautilus.
- Rename the fpc directory to another name.
- Extract the 2.4.2 binaries in the old fpc location.
- Extract also the FPC 2.4.2 source code in the old fpc source location (repeating process).
- Pray to Work!.
