I'm trying to upload a different avatar, but all I get is the following error:
"The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar."
Questions:
- What's the size limit? The message is not specific. I get this error even for a 3-kb image.
- What is the criteria for what is (or isn't) an avatar? (the image comes from my disk).
Thanks in advance.

Just to add some info...
The same pictures rejected by Upload are accepted by URL.
It looks like the problem lies on the upload method.
P.S. I'm using the latest release of Firefox on Windows 7 (32-bit).

Thread necro.
Am having the same issue as the OP. Trying to upload an avatar of 120x120 throwed me off, so I resized it to 80x80, but still getting this issue.
TIA

The same issue here. If anybody could tell anything specific on avatar size, that'd be very welcome.
Experimentally I found out that the limit is 64x64, but practically it'd be nice to mention it in the upload area.

My error, I forgot to install a package so the forum couldn't resize the avatars.
The limit is 64x64. If you upload a larger one, it gets resized on the server, if you use a larger external avatar, it gets resized by your browser.
