Title: The Power of Lazarus
Post by: munair on July 21, 2018, 03:11:44 pm
Although my first taste of Lazarus dates back to version 0.9, I started to use it more regularly in 2015. By 2016 it became my main development environment for both Windows and Linux software.

In February 2016 I started development of Solpage, a program that computes planetary positions, alignments and angles from any view point. Alignments are not just found for a given moment, but also in a specific time-frame. https://www.ditrianum.org/solpage.htm (https://www.ditrianum.org/solpage.htm)

A year ago I started development of an important additional feature: the Solar System Geometry Index (SSGI), which is a chart depiction of the planetary geometry in a given time-frame. https://www.ditrianum.org/ssgi.htm (https://www.ditrianum.org/ssgi.htm)

Solpage has become a full-fledged astronomy software program that is being used to anticipate larger earthquakes. It is completely written and compiled with Lazarus (~5 MB) and used on both Windows and Linux (currently Manjaro).

Without Lazarus this development and portability would not have been possible. Many thanks to all the developers who are and were involved in the Lazarus project.

:D :D  Wonderful. It is nice to see the kinds of applications users have been able to develop using Lazarus. Thanks for sharing the information and more power to you.

Too bad a good program is used in the cause of bad science.

Don't be too quick in your judgement. Main stream news doesn't reflect scientific fact, although these days it seems like it does, unfortunately. You better base your judgement on observation rather than words... In any case, I wouldn't waste my time if I didn't know what I was doing.

For those interested, here is an overview of anticipated larger earthquakes (M7+) in the last 12 months. Aim is an accuracy of about 80%: https://www.ditrianum.org/reports/11-M7-earthquakes-in-16-months-2017-2018.pdf (https://www.ditrianum.org/reports/11-M7-earthquakes-in-16-months-2017-2018.pdf).

But this thread really is about the software and Lazarus.

That is all that interests me. I haven't taken astronomy classes in over 2 decades. It is not currently an area of interest for me.  :D

Guess what, almost two years later and USGS (United States Geological Survey) is following Ditrianum on Twitter. Apparently, it isn't really considered bad science after all. This success is largely thanks to Solpage (https://ditrianum.org/solpage.htm), built with Lazarus.  ;D
