(Lame question probably) How to compile Lazarus from source?

I have downloaded Lazarus (binary) and Lazarus source code. Now I want to compile it, but I'm getting a lot of errors and nothing happends. What can be wrong? Do I have to put Lazarus in a specific directory or something?

A lot can go wrong. Without any indication what error you got I can only guess.

My first guess would be: no path to the compiler or other tools.
