Organizing the wiki
« on: December 19, 2018, 07:16:29 am »
Hello,

I've updated some information about the installation of Lazarus / Free Pascal on Fedora in the wiki: http://wiki.freepascal.org/Install_on_Fedora

Now I've seen that there is a similar and out-of-date page: http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_release_version_for_Fedora

Should I suggest the page for deletion on the discussion page? Or is it better to simply forward from this site to the up-to-date instructions? Is it okay to simply delete pages or should it be discussed before?

There are also many pages without a proper categorization or hierarchy, is anyone allowed to organise content in the wiki?

Best regards,
Marc

I think it is very difficult to get a wiki page deleted. There is no "Request for deletion" button, and I fear nobody with administrative rights will read the discussion pages.

I'd add a remark at the top of the old page that it is outdated and provide a link to the new page.

Everybody with a wiki account is allowed to modify any page (well, maybe a few of them are locked, I don't know). Of course, you should not abuse this possibility. I see often that people add categorization to my own pages, add additonional details or fix typos, and I am grateful for this.

Thanks wp, I will go exactly this way!  :)

There is a category "Pages for deletion" or similar (you can search categories on the wiki).
Just add this category to the page.

If the "old" page really is outdated, you can also delete the contents and redirect the page to the "new" page.
First try the "what links here" link on the left menu, to see if you need to update links in pages that link to the old one.

Ever so often I try to see if pages are uo for deleting and if appropriate I delete them.
