Hello Darkstar,
Welcome to the forum.

Did you mean you're a newbie in database programming or Lazarus or Pascal?

If you're new in Pascal or programming in general then you should not try writing a database program. It requires you have some basic programming knowledge about the language you're using and some basic knowledge about file and directory operation.

If you're new in Pascal programming, you should try hello world program or something similar. Here are some good tutorials for totally newbie in Pascal programming:
http://www.pascal-programming.info/index.php
http://www.taoyue.com/tutorials/pascal/index.html
https://devstructor.com/index.php?page=tutorials

If you already have some basic knowledge about Pascal programming but new in Lazarus:
http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Tutorial
http://wiki.freepascal.org/New_IDE_features_since

If you already have some basic about Pascal and Lazarus but new in database programming you can start from Tdbf, it is very easy to learn and requires (almost) no installation:
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_Tdbf_Tutorial

But Tdbf is very limited, suitable only for small to medium sized database without multiuser support. If you need something more advanced, these links can be useful for you:

If you had problem connecting database in Lazarus, this video tutorial maybe is what you're looking for:
