Problem after Upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04
« on: May 04, 2018, 05:39:29 pm »
Hi Folks,

just upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04.

1) Lazarus was removed during upgrade???!?!?!?
2) Ok, let's reinstall using Synaptic. Version 1.8.2+dfsg-3
3) Let's start Lazarus. --> Configure the IDE: usr/share/lazarus/1.8.2/ --> Error: directory not found!?!?!?!?

OK, what did i do wrong, and how to fix it?

Thx

OK, removed everything in Synaptic, and did a sudo dpkg -i fpc, fpc-src, lazarus, and i'm back again.

Something wrong with this "new" Versions?

OK, managed the "Update".
Did a manual "backup" of usr/share/lazarus
removed everything.
in Synaptic installed first FPC incl. Source, then Lazarus Version 1.8.2+dfsg-3

Result: The Directory in /usr/share still missing.
Copied it with sudo back, chown_ed it to root, and now it runs.

But this looks like a bug to me.

Same here. Xubuntu 18.04. First installed FPC and Lazarus from downloaded .deb files. Software Updater removed Lazarus when it updated FPC. Got it back by installing the Ubuntu package using "apt install".

3) Let's start Lazarus. --> Configure the IDE: usr/share/lazarus/1.8.2/ --> Error: directory not found!?!?!?!?

I didn't get this error.

I did encounter the missing lazcontroldgsn problem and got past it by using the method described here https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,38728.msg274830.html#msg274830.

Then, tried building an fpCEF sample application. Blew up with TApplication.HandleException Access violation.

Xubuntu 18.04 64bit, using FPC and Lazarus packaged with Ubuntu.

I have just done an install using the debs from ftp://ftp.freepascal.org/pub/lazarus/releases/Lazarus Linux amd64 DEB/Lazarus 1.8.2 and have seen no such problems. Perhaps that indicates its a packaging problem at the Ubuntu end rather than with Lazarus itself.

I am wondering if you has 1.8.2 on before you upgraded to U18.04 ?  If so, was that an Ubuntu one ?

No, it was a dpkg-ed FPC3.0.4/Lazarus1.8.2 deb from FPC/Lazarus-Homepage

Yep, thought that had to be the case. Wonder how that works ?  During the upgrade, the installer would not know where to get or find these (FPC and Lazarus) packages to reinstall them so, you (and I) expect it to leave them in place while it removes and replaces everything else. Not a process I have ever thought about.....
