Please Explain
« on: January 28, 2018, 05:04:04 pm »
I notice the replies to my post all come from "Hero Members" and I'm always listed as Jr. Member.

I think I know what Jr. Member is (Dummy). Are the Hero Members experts in Pascal?

It is simply related to postcount, and a "feature" of the forum software.

It's based strictly on chattiness, although if you look at the list of top posters they do tend to be knowledgeable, ranging from Leledumbo, who knows something about everything, down to those of us who know something about a much smaller number of things.

The guy who wrote a large part of Lazarus is a "Jr. Member", since he rarely visits the forum. I saw "Hero Members" with 500+ posts with little experience in Pascal. As @marcov mentioned it's just a caption related to the post count. Feel free to ask as many questions you like, and don't feel bad about being a beginner.

Jr. Members are hardly dummies. There are some very knowledgeable members who don't post much and are still under de 100 posts mark.

You yourself will become Full Member shortly when you hit 100 posts, Sr. Member when you hit 250 and Hero Member when you hit 500 posts. It doesn't say much other than the number of posts.

I see I'm just shy of the top 10 :D

"Hero Members" are talkative, chatty, bigmouthed and garrulous members. Being among the top ten is not a good indication.

I'll try to stay on spot 11 then  ;)

There is a missing ratio:
PostCount/(LastPostDate - FirstPostDate)

We need to know the real top ten members.

We need to know the real top ten members.
You'll need
(PostCount - useless_or_meaningless_posts) / (LastPostDate - FirstPostDate)

There is a "posts per day" statistic on the users profile page, but again, without knowing the usefulness of the post to others, this doesn't mean much.

I agree but useless_or_meaningless_posts is hard to measure. A post in a language we don't know is most likely to get 0 for its useless_or_meaningless_posts.

There is a "posts per day" statistic on the users profile page, but again, without knowing the usefulness of the post to others, this doesn't mean much.
At least we need the top ten of "posts per day"

TS is probably in that top ten :D (with 5+ posts a day)

First time posters who post 4+ posts the first day will be probably be in that list too. So you'll need to only do this for posters with more than 100 posts or member longer than X days.

In fact he is among the top posters for today. While considering a member, who had not posted for over a year, a top poster is not accurate.

Controlling the period and minimum posts helps us find the real talkative members for the period.

On the other hand I just noticed that we have "Total Time Spent Online". It might be worth it to also consider:
(Total Posts)/(Total Time Spent Online)
