Countdown to 64-bit apps only (?) on Mac has begun
« on: January 26, 2018, 03:11:40 pm »
http://appleinsider.com/articles/18/01/24/macos-high-sierra-10134-warns-users-about-32-bit-softwares-impending-demise

10.13.3 just came out this week, so the article is talking about the next point release 10.13.4, which has just started beta.

To check running apps, start Activity Monitor (under /Applications/Utilities) and make sure View | Columns | Kind is checked. This column will indicate if a running app is 32-bit or 64-bit.

To review all apps on your system, open About This Mac and click System Report. Under System Information, Software, Applications you can sort the list by the 64-bit column to see Yes or No for each app.

Object Pascal programmers should get rid of their "component fetish" especially with the non-visuals.

Google is doing the same with Android, btw.

Thanks for that!  MacOS 64bit support is on Embarcadero's current roadmap for RAD Studio later this year, but there is no mention of Android 64bit support :-(

That's different. Your uploaded apps must also have a 64-bit iteration, but it will still work on 32-bit systems. (which are the bulk, I guess)

Well, not quite. If you followed all links you would realise that 2019 is the penultimate year for Android 32. There's just a transition phase (and probably some legacy support for some time to come). And yes, there's a huge bulk.

MacOS 64bit support is on Embarcadero's current roadmap for RAD Studio later this year,

In other words, you can't create an app with Delphi for the Mac App Store since it now has a 64-bit requirement for new submissions.

Note that with 3.0.4, FPC now defaults to 64-bit target.

Yep and if you have a product out now then your customers will get the 32 bit warning in about a month and there's nothing you can do. Unless... well.. I guess it will be a bit more crowded down here.

That was also the case when FPC was light years ahead with a 64 bit compiler for Windows ... :D
More specific for 64bit Shell extensions for 64bit Windows.
Fun thing was these new users were all professionals or people with esteemed open source software.
