SOLVED: Unable to use keyboard to select text in editor

Hi

Since Lazarus 1.8 I cannot use Shift+Arrow keys to select text in the editor. Using the mouse to select text work, but it is as if the editor just ignores the Shift and Ctrl keys. Shift+Ctrl+Down Arrow on the declaration of a function also does not jump to the implementation.

Shift+Arrow keys works in other apps like Kate and LibreOffice. I am using openSuSE Leap 43.3 with KDE.

Has anybody seen this and how do I fix it ?

if anybody runs into the same issue - I managed to solve it by rebuilding Lazarus.
