Unable to resize main toolbar after Kernel upgrade.

Apologies if I am in the wrong place.

I have just updated the Kernel as a result of Spectre/Meltdown. Initially the NVidia 304 driver broke itself but this morning I was offered another Kernel upgrade and things 'went back to normal'. Unfortunately I am no longer able to stretch the toolbar to fit the width of the screen. The + runs away when I try to do so. See pictures for problem and version numbers.
