Maybe hard/flash/thumb drive failure? I've never had such issue.

Please provide more information.

It seems that this issue (if I understood it correctly) is fixed in last versions of Lazarus, but several years ago there was an issue with Lazarus unable to save project to non-DOS folder name, e.g. containing spaces or UTF8/WIN12xx characters. Try saving project into folder with only English letters in path (including all the folders in the tree, e.g. C:\Users\用户\桌面\ProjectFolder won't work, try C:\Projects\ProjectFolder).

Make sure that your USB stick is formatted to FAT32 or NTFS filesystem. And check if your security settings are correct, namely that users group or your account have full access to your USB stick.
