Another new font - IBM Plex
« on: November 21, 2017, 01:38:21 am »
Good news,

IBM released open source font family IBM Plex, containing fonts Sans, Serif and Mono, each in 16 variants (bold, italic etc.), i.e. 48 *.otf files in total. Mono is very suitable for Lazarus, see screenshot. You can download from https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/ibm-plex.

PS: I remind another font, SourceCodePro from Adobe, which I announced here five years ago: http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,18364.msg103554.html#msg103554

Enjoy!
Lazarus 2.3.0 (rev main-2_3-2863...) FPC 3.3.1 x86_64-linux-qt Chakra, Qt 4.8.7/5.13.2, Plasma 5.17.3
Lazarus 1.8.2 r57369 FPC 3.0.4 i386-win32-win32/win64 Wine 3.21

Try Eye-Candy Controls: https://sourceforge.net/projects/eccontrols/files/

Hi,
here I put ten fonts suitable for Lazarus Source Editor with their setting. I guess everyone will choose.

Font NameSize |Extra Line Spacing |Extra Char Spacing
Courier SWA1200
Cousine1100
DejaVu Sans Mono1100 or 1
Fira Mono11-30
Hack1111
IBM Plex Mono11-1 or -20
Liberation Mono1100
Monospace1110
Source Code Pro11-10
Ubuntu Mono1310

All those fonts are open source and usually availabe on https://www.fontsquirrel.com/.
If you want something more fancy, try Audimat Mono 12/1/0. Font is good but I'm too conservative for it  :).

EDIT: I tested all font with antialiasing.

My go-to programming font is Raize. Yes it's a bitmap font, but super crisp and with very distinguishable characters like zero, lowercase and uppercase L or O, the number 1 etc.

My next favourite is DejaVu Sans Mono.

A little offtopic, but: I really like Source Code Pro and Liberation Mono. Both have a patched version for Powerline, which make both attractive to use them also in Terminal and Editors like Vim (see Screenshot).
