Spammer
« on: November 14, 2017, 05:31:53 pm »
G'day,

I've only been back a week, and already my sense of frustration with incoherent/suspicious posts by new members is high.

I've now seen a few reference by others to spammers.  While I've not seen this happen, perhaps this is indeed a reason for these posts
(ie http://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,34059.msg265644.html)

My response to the last suspicious post is not one I'm proud of.  Too late to delete it and I'm glad to see @wp joined with a more useful response.

So my question is:  Can anyone think of a decent way of responding?

My concerns are:
  • Not wasting the energy of the helpful members of the forum on potentially negative posts
  • Not alienating genuine new members
  • Maintaining a positive environment

What I'm looking for a useful template response that we can use to reply to these posts that will assist genuine new members to formulate their question more usefully without frustrating existing forum members.

And in the meantime, I'm going to try and avoid the suspicious posts.

That post is doubtful, but gets the benefit of the doubt imho.  Yes, it is a short post in a generic manner to an old thread by a first poster.

On the contary though the answer shows some knowledge about  lazarus and the topic. (ontopic, discusses high dpi in a high dpi thread), isn't stitched up of messages already in the thread, and the account has a German email address (rather than a global free emailservice) and there was not an extremely short time between registering and post.

That's multiple ham signs and only a few (but severe) spam signs.

The only template is the good old "count to ten and reply with a cool head, never in anger/irritation"
