Interesting. I've just downloaded helicopter.wav and I'm delighted to report that it works perfectly.

Part of the reason I posted my own wav file was that I know that one wav file is not necessarily like another wav file in terms of different sample rate and encoding. It's weird though because if I just double click my wav file it plays OK.

Thanks a lot for posting the library, and thanks for the patient and timely responses to my questions. It's much appreciated!

Wonderfull ! I'm happy !:)

OpenAlSoundManager can only play wav file with 8 or 16 bits per sample, mono or stereo.
The wav file you have posted is 24bits per sample. This is the reason there is no sound when you click play button.
On my Windows system, if I just double click on your wav file it plays also OK.

Thanks you very much Carl Caulkett and to Handoko for your interest and your precious help. I learned a lot through our discussion :)
wishing you a nice life
