Form Designer Keeps Moving on Linux Mint
« on: December 24, 2016, 05:19:53 pm »
So I have just managed to install latest Lazarus (v1.6.2) and FPC (3.0.0) on Linux Mint Cinnamon Serena 64-bit, I have it dual boot alongside Windows 10.

I am not too familiar with Linux and took quite a bit of work getting Lazarus installed (thanks to help from this forum) but there is one remaining issue, the Form Designer keeps moving itself when I add a new control to the form. For example:

- Start Lazarus

- Project > New Project ... > Application menu.

- Form1 Designer at this point is:
  - Left = 390
  - Top = 120
  - Height = 240
  - Width = 320

- Now I move Form1 Designer and resize it to say:
  - Left = 652
  - Top = 326
  - Height = 454
  - Width = 413

- Now I go to add a control from Tool palette at the top, say a TButton from the Standard tab.

- When I click on Form1 Designer the button adds but the form designer reverts back to the original dimensions and position:
  - Left = 390
  - Top = 120
  - Height = 240
  - Width = 320

This happens also when adding a control from the View > Components menu.

What gives? Why does the form designer keep moving and resizing back to old dimensions and position when adding a control to the form?

Has anyone else experienced this behavior? It is very odd and difficult to use IDE like this.

As a temp workaround anchor docking and sparta docked form editor packages seem to work without form designer jumping and changing size.

YUP and like you, my cries for help are being ignored too.

I tried installing the three .deb files in Ubuntu 14.4 and Lazarus is fine.

Requests for help on Mint forums also being ignored. {sigh}

Hi, I use Linux Mint 17.2 Mate and don't have this problem. May be MATE does work with GTK 2.X and 3.X.
Cinnamon use GTK-3 and Lazarus 1.6 by default (project, options) use widgetset LCL "gtk-2".
So, try to change the widgetset to gtk-3. (I really don't know if it's a solution).

Well at least someone else experienced this too so I know I am not alone.

Are you using multiple monitor display? I have been having the same problem since I started using multiple displays in Lazarus on Linux Mint in a Parallels VM. If I revert to single monitor display the problem disappears. I hope that helps.

Happens to me as well. Everytime I try to drop a new control on a form, been this way for many versions. To be honest, it doesn't bother me that much.

Sometimes they don't jump about if I explicitly set the left/top then save, close lazarus, reopen it and then add controls.
