You can take a look at NiceGrid (http://www.priyatna.org) which is a VCL component, and is easy to port. I don't know if there is a LCL version already, but there is a fpGUI version included in the fpGUI repository (extras/contributed/nicegrid/). Attached is a screenshot - showing footers, spanned group headers, merged multi-line headers, cell selection etc.

For the benefit of future visitors, like me once, was looking for StringGrid with footer, (although it has a small issue when I tried on Win7).
