« on: August 23, 2016, 11:44:30 am »
Hi,

finally we have simple way to test new syntax to improve FPC quality / $MODE DELPHI without spending $ on Delphi :)

Probably limited time offer:

https://www.embarcadero.com/products/delphi/starter/promotional-download
Checkout NewPascal initiative and donate beer - ready to use tuned FPC compiler + Lazarus for mORMot project

best regards,

Cool. Will it run forever or is just a 30-day trial?
Lazarus 1.6.0.4 on FreePascal 3.0
Windows 7 32-bit

Thanks for the info. It sounds interesting, but too many limitations make it discouraging.

Lazarus now already has large user base, good community and many its own features. I personally think Lazarus should put more time in bug fixing, make it easier too use and improving the documention rather than be the shadow of Delphi.

Not cool, if you see the limitations.

AFAIK it is not trial. In mail is stated:

(...bla bla bla...) online sessions (starting 05 September 2016) and claim your very own Delphi Starter license that you can keep after the course.

To me it looks encouraging. Delphi did't have a free version for a long time unlike Visual Studio and other competition did. This promotion and the possible lower Starter Edition prices promise good future for Delphi.
Clearly it is not a 30-day trial version. It will work forever but you (obviously) get no upgrade discount.

Actually Lazarus does not put its time in anything. It is the volunteer people who decide to put their time in bug fixing and other improvements. Becoming such a volunteer is not restricted, anybody can become one if he wants.

Yes, it is a valid goal but we wish good luck for Delphi, too. :)
Mostly Lazarus trunk and FPC 3.2 on Manjaro Linux 64-bit.

I totally agree. I remember in late the 90's when Delphi 1, 2 & 4/C++Builder/Kylix were being released on PC mags in Australia. If it wasn't for that, I would never have learn't  Delphi.

Im getting it just to make sure code is Delphi compatible.

I tried on windows 7 in virtual box it is working but I didn't see 64 bits support.

I'll try at home with by my 64 bits windows but for home projects lazarus is primary development tool for me.

Thanks for starter edition free for usage embarcadero.

Ok I checked about 64Bits not supporting in Starter edition...

So here is lazarus forum long live lazarus!

Oh, that's sad. I just think to install it on my 10 years old WinXP centrino laptop.

Have anyone try it on Linux? Maybe using Wine?

Thank you bobihot for the information.

That's too bad. I found a good open source game engine written using Delphi, which has many great features that I want to study. I have tried to compile it using Lazarus trunk, but failed because it uses too much generics commands that FPC doesn't supported.

Linux support for Delphi will be available at the end of 2016: http://community.embarcadero.com/article/news/16211-embarcadero-rad-studio-2016-product-approach-and-roadmap-2
I doubt will be ever available in delphi starter edition.

;D
This is awesome.

As a hobbyist, I'm not willing to spend much money. Only the Pro edition or above seems good to me, but that's too pricey.

Can anyone tell me what does the "Commercial use license: Limited" mean? Please follow the link above.
