My alternative logo for Lazarus IDE
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:51:10 am »
Here's my alternative logo for Lazarus IDE. Simple, elegant and looks classy (not like the current logo that IMHO "smells" amateurish). I'd like to use it in my IDE but don't know how to make a replacement (splash_logo.bat for some unknown reason doesn't have any effect). Please help me in this matter.

Do you like my new logo? I would like to hear any comments (and suggestions to make it default splash logo for Lazarus 1.6 :D)

In my opinion, the current is nicer than this proposal. The cheetah has no support and is directed downward, bad symbol. The logo is pixelated ... Maybe it would be good that designers launch more proposals, then voting would be nice ... but I do not know if this is a priority for the team ... in any case, the idea to work in a better image can be positive ...

@dmytron
That logo is pixelated,  especially the text part.

Yes, but please propose it on the mailing list, otherwise there is absolutely no chance for logo change.

Yeah, for fun, here is my LiteZarus splash image.
LiteZarus has been suspended because all major things it has had has been patched back to Lazarus 1.5 (even better).

@dmytron: as far as I know, Lazarus 1.6 would not change for splash, maybe next version.
but you can do change the splash image yourself for any lazarus version in your local PC.
let me know if you didn't know how to.

I think it needs more work.  Also, I agree that the cheetah doesn't gives a nice message.

as for comment of your splash logo:
that is too plain. you may need to add gradient, silhouette /  water effect to the sea-blue. or cloud?
add more objects and texts.

as for original (current) splash, you can use it raw/resources image here:
your_lazarus_installation_path/images/splash_source
there are several images you can reuse to enrich your picture.

Thanks for the answers. I'm very pleased that you've taken seriously my half-joke idea of using my logo as a default splash screen. (Guys you didn't see the smiley, did you?)

Although I think that the current splash DOES need to be changed to be more specific and classy. Something more like the attachments.

Any help about the question I've asked above?

P.S. I think the splash screen contest would be nice.

Cheetah, while it does have some nice meanings. Like the fact it's the fastest land mammal and agile, but for logo it is all but easy, since cheetahs profile resempless skinny household cat with a voodoo shrinkt head. That makes it exceptionally hard to make a graphics from it without ending up with basic cat image, compared to some other animals with more distinctic features. Not impossible ofcourse.

I wish there would be an artist in community who could pull out of his hat something like this:

I don't think it is that bad. It was redone two or so years ago, and was already a big improvement to the one before.

Personally, what would be nice is if a splash screen [something signifying a slow application and needs to keep the end-user busy until everything is running] is simply not needed. Some applications start up so fast, they simply don't need splash screens at all. Lazarus IDE should aspire towards that goal instead.
