  • I like bugs.
Just ordered a copy.

Heh, the advertisement of these ...P fellows worked. Note, they all have just one post an they praise this book with no shame.
Most likely the ...P people are just one person with different forum accounts.
Mostly Lazarus trunk and FPC 3.2 on Manjaro Linux 64-bit.

"Friendliest" and "most inspiring" book.

Awesome.

They are in Wikipedia too, as a further reading of Lazarus Component Library entry.

Actually: One of them posted from a different country (not to far ...) than the OT. Probably a friend.
Some of the others have the same IP.

  • FPC developer.
Hmm, terryP and JamesP use the same IP address for posting........

I'm afraid that the testimonies of the first time posters whose name ends in a "P" are not really independent.

Perhaps we should establish a dedicated sub-forum for advertisements.
function GetRandomNumber: integer; // xkcd.com
begin
GetRandomNumber := 4; // chosen by fair dice roll. Guaranteed to be random.
end;

The Amazon listing linked above contains some sample pages from the book. Based on those sample pages and a lack of truly independent meaningful reviews, I decided not to purchase it, at least for the present time.  There is only one review that appears to be truly independent, but it's from an individual who seems to rate everything as five star, which I discounted. Additional reviews may change my mind.

I'm not suggesting that anyone should decide not to purchase it because that is my choice, but for those interested, the sample pages provide an excellent insight into how the author approaches the subject and his writing style and authoring abilities. And for those who do purchase and have an Amazon account, it would be great if you could add your own review.

I, too, looked through the sample pages.  I was cringing.  I do not want to read a 320+ page book of similar pages, nor do I think an entry level book needs that many pages.  But I do know that some people think size matters and that all of this is just my opinion.  I will not be picking this book up.

After so much controversy I will buy it and take a look myself.

Generally, every book on Lazarus and Free Pascal is welcome. Of course, quality matters and differs, and this is already the case with existing books.
