Well, considering current amount of RAM in people's computers and size of the bitmap which is likely few bytes (considering it is 1bit), memory leak, if any will be unnoticeable. So I'd say it's premature optimization.

Well... I consider any memory loss, however small, a waste, if it can be fixed and optimized easily.

But.... maybe that's just me  :D
