Using the bugtracker
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:14:35 pm »
Is anyone here pretty experienced with the bug tracker?

I submitted a patch for improving one of the example projects ("Examples" folder) and it was incorporated into the trunk very quickly. But when I submitted a brand new example project at the same time (this was a couple weeks ago), nothing further happened with it. I'm not sure if there's some required document/information that I need to include, if my report just got looked over/missed, or if I just need to be patient (I know there are always new reports coming in and maybe it's just overwhelming to be adding stuff when there are more critical priorities).

Basically, I'm just curious if there's any specific information or document that I need to be sure to include in order to provide a report with the best possible chance of being incorporated.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of starting a Wiki Page to parallel this one, but on the topic of *using* the bug tracker as a reporter, rather than how to moderate it. To cover things like what exactly the various status' mean, what sort of things should be submitted as a bug, etc.

I sometimes need to poke someone with write access to the repository in the mailing list to commit it.

Thanks Leledumbo. I'll give that a try.

Also went ahead and began a Wiki Page for info to help Bug Reporters (http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Using_the_Bug_Tracker). Still needs more work, and I certainly don't have all the answers, but hopefully it'll help others once it's fleshed out a bit more.

Thanks BigChimp. Not sure how I missed that page before. I'll just merge my additions into the existing pages this afternoon, and update some wiki links to make it easier to find.

Great, thanks! (Glad you'll also make it easier to find which is obviously a problem...)

Merged the info (still have more to add later today), and added several links throughout the wiki to this and other relevent wiki pages. Hopefully should help other newbies.

How do I go about getting (http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Using_the_Bug_Tracker) deleted? I cleared out the content of the page, but I don't see any option for deletion. I guess I could rename the page to something like "Delete_Me", though.

Generally deleting everything and sayding "Please delete this page" in the commit log/comment/description (whatever it's called) works well for me... one of the admins will delete the page.
