French translation of the word "Event"
« on: January 31, 2014, 09:51:59 am »
Hello gentlemen !

There is a spelling mistake in the french translation of the word "Events", in the object inspector window. It is "Evènements", it should be "Evénements".

It's not very important, but it would be good to correct it. I had a look in lazaruside.fr.po, but I didn't find the string. Is it elsewhere ?

Thanks.

Roland

hello Roland,
les fichiers de traduction à corriger sont ( du moins sur la 1.2RC2 )

lazarus\components\ideintf\languages\objinspstrconsts.fr.po

msgstr "Evènements" =>  msgstr "Evénements"

et

lazarus\languages\lazaruside.fr.po

msgstr "Evènement manquants"   =>   msgstr "Evénements manquants"

Ami calmant, J.P

I am sorry to have to say this, but I've just installed Lazarus 1.2.4, and the mispelled word is still visible.

My projects are on Gitlab and on Codeberg.

Marcov made the fix in the Trunk version.   I don't know if was backported to the 1.2.x family, but either way, the fix was applied after 1.2.4 was released.

Doh!  I missed the dates of the original conversation in this thread...

Right - it looks like the fix wasn't backported, which means it hasn't made it to the 1.2.x family, but will be fixed in the 1.4 family.   If you want to confirm for yourself if this has been correctly fixed, you can always install Trunk.  There are instructions in the wiki.    Sorry for the misinformation...

I see other small corrections to do here and there. I wouldn't want to be a burden for marcov or someone else. What should I do to help ? Or is it good if I continue to report in this discussion the corrections to do ?

:)  Depends how adventurous you're feeling.

You can always download Trunk from SVN, work out how to make the changes (tracking down r43859 and seeing what changes were made there could be a good starting point).  Then you apply all the corrections you find, and submit a patch through the bugtracker.

For installing Trunk
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Installing_Lazarus (manually)
https://bitbucket.org/reiniero/fpcup (a very useful program that automates the process for you)

For creating a patch
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Creating_A_Patch (English version)
http://wiki.freepascal.org/Creating_A_Patch/fr (French version)

Hmmm, I note the French page has possibly drifted out of sync with the English page.    Making modifications to the wiki is far easier than the code.  Just create an account yourself, it's a community wiki - anyone can make changes.  Any changes you make there will be more than welcome  :D

For submitting the patch
http://wiki.freepascal.org/How_do_I_create_a_bug_report
(though as this is a language translation patch, you probably won't need to create text cases that reproduces bugs - the bugtracker has other uses than just tracking bugs)

If you don't want to make changes directly to the codebase, then I'll leave it for others to make suggestions on the best way forward :-)

Thanks to Mike for his extensive answer but please note

If you want to submit improvements to the FPC or Lazarus code, you need to submit a patch which developers can easily merge.

Exceptions:

.po translation files should be sent as whole files
... so no need to create a patch if you're modifying .po translation files; please attach the entire new file to the bug report.

Yes, many thanks to Mike for the step-to-step guide and thanks to BigChimp too for the answer about translation files.

So I know whar I have to do.  :)

Bonjour Monsieur Chastain,

Je n'avais pas vu ce message avant.

Si vous avez installé la version de développement Lazarus 1.3 actuelle, je viens de faire des modifications (Il y a quelques jours et ça m'a pris du temps). L'intention étant surtout de ne pas avoir de plantée à cause des formats modifiés. Et jusqu'à à un certain point, je trouve fatiguant d'avoir des libellés fréquemment en français puis en anglais dans le même menu/fiche.

lazaruside.fr.zip -> contient lazaruside.fr.po, textes de l'EDI

Bon week-end,

Bruno K.

Translation:
<In case either you or other French speakers should have proposals to complete and improve the translation, perhaps we could ask for a section "Other languages" + "French" where we can exchange improvements and additions. (I don't know whom to ask)>

Well... AFAIC, you're already posting in the correct forum - the translations forum... Perhaps it's easier to prefix your subjects with [FRENCH] to indicate it's about French translations & could contain French text. Otherwise, there would need to be subforums for all languages FPC/Lazarus support even though the actual number of messages may be small.

Of course, if a significant number of French posts (not necessarily to do with translations) appear, a subsection may be a good idea, as has been done for other languages, but I would suggest waiting for things to develop naturally first.

Just my 2 cents/centimes ;)
