Hi,
Did the F1 context help really improve in 1.0.8?

I remember trying it in older versions and it did not work, but now if I put the cursor on
say tstringlist or any keyword from the FCL or LCL, I get a really nice CHM help complete with
examples.

Very nice.

It's been improved since about 1.0, perhaps 1.0.2... a while ago at least.

I think it might have been 1.0.6 as someone I know is using 1.0.4 and it does not work the same as 1.0.8
regardless it's nice in 1.0.8

Can a snapshot of Lazarus 1.0.8 fixes built using fpc 2.6.0 be added to the Lazarus snapshots, for Windows in particular?

I know there were discussions about it, but I don't recall.
What is the problem with 2.6.2?

You can always keep the 2.6.0 fpc directory from a previous 1.0.6 install, and then rebuild lazarus with that.

1. There is no such thing as Lazarus 1.0.8 fixes; just 1.0.8.
2. Why do you want this? There are many improvements in 2.6.2 compared to 2.6.0. If you see problems, you can post bug reports...

That said, you can try and compile it yourself, e.g. using fpcup. No idea if it will work, but you can give it a shot.

For the location of updated Lazarus trunk with FPC 2.6.x snapshots, see the threads about snapshot location.

I use some 3rd party libraries that don't compile with 2.6.2 yet, as they require some extensive changes which will take some time to integrate.
I am okay with fpcup on Linux, but not yet on Windows. I need some time to practice. Not only that - my compiler locations are non standard as well. The snapshots are easiest and I will be working with the same code as a lot of others.

I have checked the snapshot locations at ftp://freepascal.dfmk.hu/pub/lazarus/snapshots/ and there is no 1.0.9 built with fpc 2.6.0

All you need to do is
- install 1.0.6
- then 1.0.8 in the same location, without uninstall
- now you have both fpc directories
- go to the options, change the fpc, fpc source and make path
- rebuild lazarus

Hope Martin's suggestion works for you!

I'm sorry, but my crystal ball is saying there's zero interest in providing/maintaining snapshots with 2.6.0 as the latest stable release is 2.6.2...

This version cannot be installed on my ubuntu 13.04.

At first, when I clicked the install button, Package bad quality error appeared on the screen, then I said "Ignore and install".However, at the end of the installation process a new window, titled Package Operation Failed, appeared.

Here is the error output:

Seems like the compression used for the packages is not supported by your Ubuntu version.

Somebody distributed packages with a different compression; you could search the Lazarus mailing list (I think it was a response to the 1.0.8 release announcement).

Of course, the packages could just be corrupted... have you checked the checksums with e.g. md5?

Of course, the package was corrupted. I downloaded it again and I could install it.

Thanks.

I use some 3rd party libraries that don't compile with 2.6.2 yet,

(for benefits that don't know the details, could you please add urls to relevant threads and bugreports?)

I haven't updated them in a long time. I will submit reports when I check that they still don't compile with the fpc 2.6.2 versions.
