Stable for small/medium client/server apps?

Hi,
I'm an independent consultant and professor teaching databases in a local University here in Concepcion, Chile.
Nowadays I develop requirements engineering projects, and last time I programmed was using Delphi 6 UP2, postgreSQL, DeveloperExpress components and ReportManager (open source reporting tool for Delphi). I really loved Delphi and DevExpress Quantum Grid components...
I'd like to promote Lazarus with my students, and have them develop Client/Server applications with PostgreSQL; I now it is in a beta level, yet could it it be considered stable enough to use it for small/medium client/server applications? Is there functionallity for master-detail, lookups, filtering, reporting?
